Bird Netting

Bird netting for New Zealand gardens and orchards

Our bird nets are made for the strong New Zealand sun: every net is UV-stabilised, and our standard netting is built for around 10 years of use on vineyards. Choose from widths of 0.9 m up to 20 m, in black or white, 30 gsm (standard) or heavier 38–50 gsm.

The size on each net is the area it covers when spread out – a 4 m × 10 m net covers 40 m². The 16 mm × 16 mm mesh keeps birds out but lets bees in.

Which size do I need?

• One fruit tree: branch width + 2 × tree height, by branch depth + 2 × tree height – so the net goes over the top and reaches the ground on every side.
• Vege bed on hoops: measure over a hoop from the ground on one side to the ground on the other; for the length, the bed length + 2 × hoop height.
• Row of trees or grapevines: row width + 2 × height, by row length + 2 × height.
• Fruit cage or frame: up one side, across the top and down the other side, both ways.

Not sure? Use the size finder – type the area to cover and it lists every net that is big enough, cheapest first – or call us on 021 074 5789.

Black or white, 30 or 50 gsm?

Black netting blends into the garden; white netting is easier to see. A higher gsm means a thicker, stronger net that lasts longer – 30 gsm suits most home gardens, 38–50 gsm suits exposed sites and commercial use.
